The sheep price crisis will be one of the main talking points at a Teagasc Sheep Seminar this evening
The meeting takes place at 8pm this evening in the Abbey Hotel in Roscommon.
Discussions on the Sheep Improvement Scheme and the Nitrates Directive will also be taking place.
The Irish Farmers Association are also due to hold a national meeting for sheep farmers in Athlone on Monday.
Michael Conroy, Teagasc Advisor and sheep farmer from Tulsk, says these meetings are important as the sheep sector battles with price cuts on lamb.
"The price of lamb has dropped significantly even over the past number of weeks but if we look at the situation as regards 2022, lamb prices are back from 50 to 70 cent a kilo, which is 12 to 15 a head on this time last year which is a very significant reduction in prices. The big thing is, and we see it there, lambs haven't done as well but basically the big thing we'd be focusing on is trying to keep performance on lamb".
