The closure of one of Leitrim's most popular water-based attractions due to rising insurance costs has been described as 'devastating'.
The owners of Drumshanbo Blueway Water Park have closed their doors after it was revealed their annual insurance premium costs had grown from €10,000 to €25,000.
The increase was a result of the park's insurers not being in a position to renew the annual premium and attempts to find an alternative quote resulted in a 150% increase.
The news has been greeted with dismay in the south Leitrim area, which is hoping to salvage what is left of the tourism season following the almost three-month shutdown of facilities
