A church restoration committee in Roscommon is looking at a shortfall of €45,000 after essential repairs were carried out in recent weeks.
The works at the Sacred Heart Church in Roscommon town got underway early last month after a commissioned survey identified their need towards the end of last year.
The repairs carried out in recent weeks include remedial works to slating and lead valleys, replacement of bell supports, remedial works to the pinnacles of the church, and to the boiler house chimney.
Chairperson of the restoration committee Michael Connaughton says they were very glad that more issues weren't identified during the project, but they do have a shortfall of funds to cover the cost.
"We're delighted to say that the works have come in within the budget of €100,000. We currently have in the region of €55,000 raised through our fundraising efforts and donations from our parishoners and people outside the parish as well. So that does leave us with a shortfall of €45,000 which will have to be attended to. It is a challenge to raise that money now but our restoration committee will be sitting down and looking at that and see exactly what we need to raise going forward".
