A local public health specialist says the closure of Covid testing centres doesn't mean the end of the disease.
Testing centres as well as the online portal for appointments are closing down on Thursday.
The HSE says the advice around Covid-19 has changed and testing is no longer recommended for the vast majority of people.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning Dr Anthony Breslin , Public Health specialist with HSE North West says while things have settled down considerably at the moment, there is no guarantee that won't change in the coming months.
'We can't say it is over. Covid is not like flue in that it is not seasonal and we have seen in the past that we have had upsurges and then it goes down again. Obviously those sort of waves have reduced but we don't know if we will get a different variant down the line in nine months time.'
