The GAA' s Higher Education committee have confirmed that there will be no Third Level championships taking place in the remainder of this academic year.
It had been hoped that some format of the Sigerson and Fitzgibbon cups could be held, but the current spike in Covid 19 cases has seen the committee make the decision to cancel the competitions to protect public health and its members.
While the decision will see no competitive action in this academic year, they have not discounted the hope of possibly hosting some of competition towards the end of 2021.
The GAA is currently on lockdown in line with the Covid 19 level 5 restrictions with collective inter-county training not set to return till the end of this month, with the leagues scheduled to get underway at the end of the February.
Pre-season tournaments such as the Dr. Mc Kenna cup and FBD league have also been cancelled
