The Shannon blueway between Carrick-on-Shannon and Leitrim village, and the Hodson Bay harbour in Roscommon are earmarked for further development in the Shannon Waterways Masterplan.
The plan was first announced in March of this year setting out an integrated framework for sustainable tourism development up until 2030.
It's led by Waterways Ireland with Failte Ireland, who work with 10 county councils along the Shannon system.
Six projects have been developed locally in the first year including the refurbishment of Dromod Harbour, a canal walk at Rooskey, and a floating marina at Redbridge on the eastern shore of Lough Ree.
The Western Regional Manager with Waterways Ireland Eanna Rowe says they have a lot of plans for the next couple of years in the Shannonside area.
