Significant development works are being proposed at two schools in Co. Roscommon. St. Coman's Wood Primary School and Scoil Mhuire Strokestown are seeking approval from county planners to go ahead with the construction plans. Planning permission was sought by the Board of Management of St. Coman's Wood Primary School to construct a new single-storey extension to the school. The proposed extension will contain two special educational needs classrooms, one mainstream classroom, as well as all associated ancillary educational spaces, circulation area, additional car parking spaces and pedestrian footpaths. The application also includes the demolition of an existing caretakers shed, as well as the retention of a temporary prefabricated classroom to the rear of the school building until the completion of the overall development. County planners approved the application with 13 conditions attached.

Meanwhile, Scoil Mhuire Strokestown has submitted a planning application for a new extension at the school. The submission includes the proposed two-storey extension to the school building, as well as amendments to car parking arrangements. The works would include the removal of two existing prefabricated school buildings and the construction of a new one, consisting of two general classrooms with all ancillary sanitary accommodation and locker area. The submission also proposes to develop a special needs accommodation unit with vertical circulation and external works, as well as a hard and soft play area, with a sensory garden. The application has been received by county planners and is due to be decided upon by the end of July.
