Local commercial vehicle registrations in August have seen a significant drop when compared to the same time last year. New figures from the CSO show the number, make and status of vans, LGVs and HGVs registered in the Shannonside Region month by month. 92 goods vehicles were registered in the region in Longford, Leitrim and Roscommon last month, a drop of 38 when compared to August 2023. Roscommon saw the highest drop in vehicle registrations with 36 registered last month compared to 56 during the same period last year.
Of this year's figures, 17 of those goods vehicles in Roscommon were new registrations, while 19 were second hand. In Longford, the CSO recorded 17 new goods vehicles purchased and 13 second hand vehicles, with the total still down on the 2023 figure of 46. Leitrim saw the smallest drop in registrations, with a difference of just two year on year, while second hand vehicle registrations almost doubled that of new buys. Overall, 26 registrations were made in Leitrim last month compared to 28 in the county in August 2023. Nationally, the most popular brand of goods vehicle according to the CSO is Ford, following by Peugeot and Volkswagen.
