A number of major expansion projects at a local hospital are seeing significant progress according a new update from the HSE.
Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe is currently undergoing works on two separate new wards, with 62 beds set to be added to the facility once complete.
Following a request from Ballinasloe Councillor Evelyn Francis Parsons at yesterday's Western Region Health Forum, the Saolta Hospital group confirmed works are on track.
A new 12 bed ward is expected to become operational at the hospital in September and will provide rooms for users requiring isolation for end of life care, with the larger 50 bed unit on track for late 2024.
Tenders also set to be opened for a new Ambulatory Gynaecology unit in the coming weeks, with the aim of unit to admit, treat and discharge the patient on the same day in an outpatient setting.
According to the Saolta Hospital Group, the long sought after CT Scanner for the hospital has also now been installed and is operational in the under croft of the Surgical Theatre.
