A Sinn Fein Councillor is calling for Air B&Bs and online retailers to be subject to commercial rates in Leitrim. Councillor Cormac Flynn made the call following the decision of Leitrim County Council to increase Commercial Rates by 5 percent. The Sinn Fein Councillor criticised the move, stating it was a further pressure on businesses who were already struggling.
Council officials stated at the 2025 budget meeting that should the 5% increase be refused, then a number of high profile projects would be shelved due to lack of funding. These included projects such as the Shannonside Recreational Centre, a potential new library for Carrick and a number of other high profile projects. Cllr Flynn says he's not happy in the manner in which the increase was passed:
