Reports came to light in August 2022 the Longford-Westmeath TD did not properly declare his full business interests, as per Dáil rules.

The Standards in Public Office Commission has released its investigation report into allegations involving local Fianna Fáil TD Robert Troy. Reports came to light in August 2022 the Longford-Westmeath TD did not properly declare his full business interests, as per Dáil rules. The reports which came to light in August 2022 led to Deputy Troy's resignation as a Minister of State, after he claimed to have made genuine errors with his statutory declaration. SIPO has today found Deputy Troy failed to declare five rental properties in Westmeath and one in Phibsborough, Dublin; he failed to declare a contract with Westmeath County Council under the Rental Accommodation Scheme; and he did not declare he was a director of RMT Management Limited.

In a statement issued to Shannonside FM News this evening, Deputy Troy says that he has always accepted this was a serious matter and sought to rectify his errors as soon as they became apparent. He went on to say that the Commission did not find evidence that he acted other than in the mistaken belief that his actions in making the original declarations were in accordance with the Commission's guidelines. Deputy Troy also said that he is glad the process has now been concluded.
