A site has been identified for the development of a brand new Mean Scoil Mhuire secondary school in Longford.
The Department of Education has confirmed that it is to begin negotiations on purchasing part of a landbank currently owned by the local authority just off the N4.
It's hoped the new building will provide accommodation for up to 650 students and services for children with special educational needs.
The identified site is understood to also be in close proximity to the area identified for the new Longford Gaelscoil at Abbeycartron.
