A new healthy community strategy has been launched today for Longford.
Sláintecare aims to deliver improved access to services to improve and promote healthier lifestyle behaviours.
It also includes enhanced community houses at Ardnacassa and McEoin Park in Longford Town.
Longford Town is one of 19 areas in the country to deliver this national cross-Government initiative with a number of local agencies including Longford Community Resources, the EDI Centre and Lus Na Gréine Family Resource Centre involved.
Minister of State for Public Health, Well-being and national Frank Feighan launched the programme at Longfoird county council offices this morning.
Local Development Officer for the project Patricia Forde has been explaining what's involved in the sláintecare healthy community plan.
"The EDI centre who are delivering the 'healthy food made easy' and the 'We Can Quit' stop spoking programmes. There's also the Lus na Gréine family resource centre who are delivering the triple P parenting programme, the Longford Communty resources Limited are delivering the 'Social Prescribing' programme and here in Longford County Council we also got feed funding projects such as community houses, community gardens, homework clubs, enhancement projects improving access out to Ballyminion primary care centre so there's a wide variety of programmes.
