Longford Slashers booked their place in the quarter-final of the Longford championship with a two point win over Fr. Manning Gaels.
The expected one way traffic never really occurred with Fr. Manning Gaels battling back but losing out 1-9 to 1-7.
Slashers always led in the game, leading four points to three at the break, Darragh O’Connell’s goal seven minutes into the second-half offered a glimpse of Slashers taking off as they led 1-6 to 0-4.
Slashers had extended the lead to six points, but Martin Cassidy’s penalty brought the difference back to three with seven minutes of normal time remaining.
However an important Colin Smyth point put two between the teams and made the gap too big for the intermediate champions who bowed out 1-9 to 1-7.
