The government has warned the country is at a 'tipping point' as new restrictions come into effect to tackle the spread of Covid-19.
Public transport should now be avoided where possible and those over 70 are being asked to restrict their social circles.
Visitors into homes are now limited to six people from three households while outdoor gatherings of no more than 15 are allowed.
Gardaí are also to be given greater powers to enforce the rules.
All measures are to remain in effect until September 13th and come as 190 cases of coronavirus were confirmed yesterday.
Sinn Fein Justice spokesperson Martin Kenny is welcoming the news that gardai are to be given more powers to deal with problems likes bars or restaurants that may not be adhering to Coivd-19 regulations.
The Leitrim based TD says he's also happy to see they'll have more power to enforce adherence in cases of private house parties.
Deputy Martin says though that he doesn't agree with the limiting of people to 15 at outdoor events and believes it's a retrograde step.
