Sligo/Leitrim Deputy Martin Kenny is welcoming the announcement of an increase in judges across all court levels.
Deputy Kenny, who's the Sinn Fein party spokesperson on Justice, says the findings of a Judicial Planning Working Group had called for a significant increase in judges over the next five years.
He says many of the judges will be appointed at district and circuit court level, where waiting times are especially long, particularly for those seeking domestic violence orders.
The Leitrim TD says he raised the waiting time for those seeking protection from domestic violence, in the Dail last week, with some people facing a wait of four to 16 weeks.
He is urging the government to act immediately, and move the necessary legislation that will allow for the increase in the judicial appointments.
