Martin Kenny said the short run in coupled with poor weather has severely hampered canvassing efforts.

The deadline for final nominations was at 12 noon today.

The candidates in today’s debate were: Councillor Nessa Cosgrove of the Labour Party; Blaithin Gallagher of the Green Party; Deputy Martin Kenny of Sinn Fein; Cllr Edel McSharry of Fianna Fáil; and Graham Monaghan of Aontu. 

Michael Kelly will be running for the constituency in the upcoming General Election.

Councillor O'Rourke was re-elected to Leitrim County Council earlier this year, topping the poll in the Ballinamore Local Electoral Area.

She has become the 12th declared candidate for the election in Sligo-Leitrim.

Nationally, over 4,000 motor theft and related offences were reported in the first two quarters of the year.

Blaithin Gallagher was recently selected to represent the party in the next General Election.
