Over one million euro is to be provided to improve local roads and laneways across the Shannonside region.
Roscommon is to receive the largest tranche of Local Improvements Scheme funding in the region at €456,000, while Longford and Leitrim will receive just over €350,000 each.
Leitrim's funding is increasing by €80,000 from last year to tackle a waiting list of 50 areas.
Last month Ballinamore M.D councillors were told that no new applications would be allowed until the current backlog was cleared and it is estimated that almost four million euro would be required to complete the current list of LIS.
Councillor Gerry Dolan feels the money allocated today is just scratching the surface of LIS in the county :
"What we need is a big allocation to get the backlog cleared up because if they were to include, or start off two or three pretty large schemes all that money be eaten up that is allocated for this year and still leave up to 50 schemes to be carried out."
