Face to face operations will move across to Cortober in the new year.

An Post will retain mail sorting operations at it's historic St George's Terrace building in Carrick-on-Shannon, as retail services move out of the town centre.

An Post has confirmed that Carrick-on-Shannon Post Office is set to move to Glancy's SuperValu in Cortubber next year.

The move comes following the recent resignation of postmistress, Ann Gormley, after a number of years in the role.

According to Public Relations Manager with An Post Angus Laverty, the post was advertised a number of times with the partnership secured with Glancy's in recent months.

Local Councillor Cormac Flynn has added his voice to those who've criticised the move of the face to face service across the river into Roscommon.

Speaking to Shannonside FM News, he believes that the wider population of the area could support a post office in both the town centre and in Cortober.
