South Roscommon residents will find out later this evening on the emerging preferred route for an upgrade to the N61 Ballymurray-Knockcroghery bypass.
The N61 is one of the busiest primary routes in county Roscommon; it currently experiences traffic levels in the region of 8,000 vehicles a day at Ballymurray with levels increasing to over 13,000 towards Athlone.
Planners have worked on six routes that were presented to the public in open consultation a year ago.
The area of consultation had at first just included routes to bypass Ballymurray railway gates and Knockcroghery village however the study area was extended to include two routes that would also bypass Lecarrow.
Councillors from the Athlone electoral area are to meet with the Roads Design Office this afternoon just ahead of the publication of the emerging route selected which will be available at 6pm on N61Roscommon.ie.
