A special double celebration will take place at Coosan Point outside Athlone this afternoon to mark the official opening of the new lifeboat station there, and the dedication of the boat.
The husband, mother and children of the late Tara Scougall will join in the ceremony tomorrow to officially name the lifeboat almost three years after it was given to the Lough Ree service.
The service on Lough Ree celebrates its 10th anniversary this year and senior personnel from the RNLI will attend today's ceremony
Members of the public who want to attend todays ceremony are reminded that a shuttle bus service will be provided from the car park at Coosan Church to Coosan Point starting at 1pm.
