The Methodist Church in Athlone is celebrating a special a special anniversary this weekend.
A number of events have been arranged to mark the 275th anniversary of the arrival of the travelling preacher John Wesley in the town to establish a Methodist society there.
A talk is to take place tonight by Irish-American Pat O' Shea who will speak about his personal journey "from the gangs of New York to church leader."
A prayer breakfast is to take place in the church tomorrow morning and a Ministry of Healing service is to be held tomorrow evening.
The church on Northgate Street was built in 1856 and is admired for its architecture in a neo-Gothic style.
