A special meeting on the importance of the European Union will be held in Athlone tonight. Organised by Fianna Fáil TD and MEP hopeful Barry Cowen, the event will focus on sustainability in Food Production, Energy Security and Protecting the Irish Tax regime. Deputy Cowen is running in June's European Election in the Midlands North West constituency and is calling for people to recognise what he says is the importance of the Union to the people of Ireland.
The event will take place at the Shamrock Lodge Hotel in Athlone this evening from 8. The meeting is free to attend and will be chaired by local Fianna Fáil TD for Longford/Westmeath, Robert Troy. Speaking on Let's Talk earlier today, Deputy Cowan believes many concerns held by Irish people over the EU could be addressed by a clearer understanding of the body.
