A special meeting is due to take place in Athlone today to discuss a proposed major housing and student accommodation project in the town.
The plans are being led by Longford architect and developer Mark Cunningham.
Planning for the project was lodged with An Bord Pleanala in January for 122 residential units as well as a major student accommodation complex of 283 units at Cartrontroy, Kilnafaddoge, Ardnaglug and Lissywollen townlands.
The Development by Avenir Homes Limited is being progressed through the planning process as a Strategic Housing development, which is a fast track process for such large scale projects.
A decision on the project is expected by early summer.
Athlone-Moate Municipal district members will discuss the project at a special meeting this afternoon at 2.30pm.
