A special information day took place at a level crossing in Roscommon this morning to highlight a surge in incidents involving road users so far this year.
Today marks International Level Crossing Awareness Day and Iarnród Éireann has highlighted a significant surge in incidents at level crossings involving road users so far this year including in this region.
An information session, involving Irish Rail as well as Garda and the Road Safety Authority took place at Knockcroghery level crossing today.
Incident rates are significantly up on last year.
Year to date there have been 54 incidents at level crossings across the network this is up dramatically from 31 for the same period last year.
