The government will set up three new specialist eating disorder hubs in 2021, reversing a move to suspend funding last year.
They will provide treatment to a wide area, including Cork and Kerry, Galway, Mayo and Roscommon, as well as half a dozen counties around the midlands.
Ireland’s eating disorder plan will be funded in 2021.
Some of the counties the new hubs will cover include Cork, Kerry, Galway, Meath, Offaly and Longford.
Consultant psychiatrist Caroline Maher says they will provide crucial treatment for those suffering.
It’s hoped by the end of the year, 47 specialist staff will be recruited for these treatment centres.
