The speed limits on all local rural roads in Co Leitrim will not be reduced to 60 kilometres an hour, according to a Fianna Fáil councillor. It's after the council announced it is to carry out a review of the speed limits on these roads.
The default limit will drop from 80 kilometres an hour to 60 in November, unless special speed limits are adopted by the council. It comes after the government passed legislation to lower the speed limits, in response to the rising number of road deaths. Ballinamore councillor Gary Prior says all roads will be looked at individually as part of the review:
