Speed limits on local roads in the Shannonside region are being cut by 20 kilometres an hour today.
They're dropping from 80 to 60 - in an effort to reduce road deaths.
This applies to all local roads in Longford, Leitrim and Roscommon, bar the old N5 near Ballaghaderreen, where you can still drive at 80.
Drumshanbo councillor Brendan Barry, from Sinn Fein, doesn't think the reductions will have the desired effect.
But councillor Uruemu Adejinmi, from Fianna Fáil, is defending the changes.
