St. Mary’s bounced back from two opening round defeats to seal a 3-10 to 3-7 win over Aughawillan in the Leitrim senior championship group one.
Sean Flanagan converted an Aughwillan penalty after five minutes as they led 1-2 to one point but Mary’s battled back and were ahead on 25 minutes.
Robbie Lowe finding the Aughwillian net as they led 1-4 to 1-2 as the sides exchanged points as Denis Connerton’s side led 1-5 to 1-3 at half-time.
Alan Doherty converted a St. Mary’s penalty five minutes into the second half as Mary’s led by six with five minutes remaining 2-8 to 1-5.
Morgan Quinn set up a grandstand finish with an Aughwillian goal to make it 2-8 to 2-5 with free’s by Quinn and Ciaran Gilheany making it a one point game.
Sean Flanagan converted a penalty for Aughawillan two minutes into injury time to make it 3-7 to 2-9 but Mary’s equalised with a Ray Mulvey point two minutes later.
Mary’s broke Aughawillan hearts as Daire Farrell punched a winning goal home five minutes into injury time.
The result gives St. Mary’s their first win of the season but leaves Aughawillan in real danger of being eliminated from the senior championship.
