The protected services bureau in the Sligo/Leitrim Garda Division has been given a significant staffing boost.
The unit provides advice, guidance and assistance to Gardai who are investigating sexual offences, child exploitation, domestic abuse, human trafficking as well as missing person cases.
A new full time detective inspector along with two detective gardai have recently been appointed.
At present, the unit is carrying out 101 investigations locally which includes a number of coercive control cases.
Bureau staff are also currently receiving bespoke training on issues they are dealing with, with accreditation from the University of Limerick.
