The jurors in the Stardust Inquests have reached their verdicts into the deaths of 48 people at the Dublin ballroom in 1981. However, the announcement won't be made until tomorrow afternoon to allow loved ones of the victims to attend the proceedings. It’s been 43 years since a fire broke out at the Stardust ballroom in Artane and now after the longest Inquests in the history of the State verdicts have been reached.
Following eleven days of deliberations - This afternoon at half two – the foreman of the jurors said they had reached a majority verdict. The Coroner said she will defer announcing the findings until tomorrow afternoon to allow family members of the victims to attend the proceedings. She told the jurors they can’t discuss their verdicts and it could be contempt of court if they do. Family members and friends will gather to hear the verdicts for each of the 48 victims at 2pm tomorrow.
