Construction of a new state of the art Community Nursing Unit in Athlone is due to begin next year.
The 50-bed unit will be built in Clonbrusk to replace St Vincent's Day Care Centre in the area.
A new day-care centre is also to be included in the Nursing Unit

Westmeath TD Robert Troy has welcomed the news saying that this was the culmination of years of work and the centre will be of major benefit to the people of Athlone and wider areas.
The centre is scheduled to be completed in 2024.
