A status yellow rain warning is in place for Leitrim and Roscommon.
The warning came into effect at 4am and will remain in place until 4am tomorrow, before a return to more settled conditions for the rest of the week.
The warning is for 18 counties - all of Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Leitrim, Roscommon, Tipperary and Waterford.
Motorists are urged to travel safely on the roads.
Cathal Nolan, from Ireland's Weather Channel, says the warning will only have a minimal impact in the Shannonside region.
