A 'multi-weather hazard event' is bearing down across the country.
After a cold and frosty night, heavy snow is now on the way with a series of weather warnings coming into effect from lunchtime today.
An orange 'snow and ice' warning kicks in from 5pm for Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Wicklow, Clare, Limerick and Tipperary, with an orange alert for rain and snow for Cork, Kerry and Waterford.
There's also a yellow warning for 'rain' for Cork, Kerry and Waterford from 1pm today.
There's a status yellow 'snow and ice' warning for Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Dublin, Kildare, Longford, Louth, Meath, Westmeath and Connacht from 5pm.
And a status yellow 'Rain and Snow' warning for Wexford.
Cathal Nolan of Ireland's Weather Channel says tonight and tomorrow morning will be the worst.
