A Ballinasloe mental health unit has significantly improved in its adherence to best practice according to a new inspection report.
The Mental Health Commission found the Creagh unit recorded just one non-compliance out of almost 40 outcomes in its latest annual report.
The Creagh Suite is located in the grounds of St. Brigid's Hospital, Ballinasloe and operates as a long-stay continuing care facility for residents with dementia.
The latest inspection report from the mental health commission shows significant improvements on the 2020 report - with its compliances rising from 27 to 30- and it's non compliances dropping from four to just one.
The moderate risk rating was noted by inspectors in connection with medication administration and storage as record did not have the date of its discontinuation in two instances.
The centre recorded a 975 compliance rating - with the national average at just 87%
Inspectors also noted that the approved centre operated safe practices that reduced risk of harm to the residents, and that effective systems were in place to safeguard patients.
Covid-19 also impacted residents with the centre praised for its response including links were established with the infection, prevention, and control lead. Clear notices were on display advising staff of protocols to follow and residents were all accommodated in single bedrooms.
