Students from three schools in the Shannonside region have progressed to the finals of this years Certified Irish Angus school's competition.
The initiative organised by Certified Irish Angus in association with its partners ABP and Kepak sees the student groups actively involved in the rearing of five Irish Angus calves.
Over the next 18 months, David Duggan, Liam Killoran, Gavin O'Connor and Colin Mcgrath from the Abbey Community College in Boyle will rear calves while carrying out research on 'Sustainable Beef Production'.
Ardscoil Phadraig, Granard students, Tara Spollen, Katelyn Farrell and Ryan Reilly have also made the finals.
Their studies will focus on methods of Adapting Technologies In Breeding for their study.
And from Holy Rosary College, Mountbellew, students Peter O’Neill, Oisin Colleran, Amy Higgins and Cormac Delaney are also participating in the finals.
Each member of the team will benefit from the sale of the animals on completion of the project and the winning students also receive an additional grant of €2,000 for their further education.
