Funding has been granted for walking and cycling infrastructure at Rooskey Bridge.
Senator Eugene Murphy raised the issue in the Seanad calling for works to be carried out at the location to ensure it becomes safer for pedestrians and cyclists.
Junior Minister Ossian Smyth confirmed the National Transport Authority has granted funding for new infrastructure across the river.

It's expected a consultant will be appointed before the end of the year and a feasibility study will be carried out.

We have unfortunately a very narrow bridge there , so if two vehicles are on the bridge , no child , no adult , no parent with a buggy, can actually get past, get by.
It has been spoken about , about putting a footbridge that would, I suppose ,be environmentally friendly , number one, in terms of, it will give the cyclists and walkers a very safe passage across that bridge, and help people going to school as well.
