ESB Networks say a fault near a substation in Carrick-on-Shannon last night is the reason behind a major outage in south Leitrim and north Roscommon last night.
A statement this afternoon has confirmed that over 6,000 customers around Carrick-on-Shannon, Boyle and Elphin were affected by the outage which began around 8 o' clock last night.
All customers had their supply restored by midnight last night.
While there have been complaints that phone signal was lost in many areas during the same time, ESB Networks say many phone masts have back up power in the event of power loss but these contingencies aren't a matter for ESB.
Meanwhile over 2,000 customers were affected in the Lough Rynn area for half an hour this morning after tree branches came in contact with an overhead line.
The remaining 118 customers in Mohill had their power restored just after one o' clock this afternoon.
