Low attendance levels at walk in vaccination centres across the region have demonstrated the success of the vaccine process according to a local GP.
Just 365 people attended the centres in Longford, Roscommon, Leitrim and Athlone over a three day period, compared to over 1,500 the week before.
Dr Paul Trueick says that uptake of the vaccine in the Shannonside region has been very strong, with significantly fewer people over the age of 16 now requiring one of the first vaccine doses available at the walk in centres.
According to the HSE, 89 per cent of people who are eligible for a vaccine have received their first dose.
Dr Trueick says this has resulted in less demand for the jab as the majority of those seeking one have received at least one dose.
