Locals in the South Roscommon region are being urged to champion local swimming spots as officially designated bathing waters before a public consultation ends this Thursday.
Under European and Irish law, Irish local authorities must identify bathing waters each year so that these areas can be monitored to ensure they meet stringent standards.
A public consolation is due to finish later this week in Roscommon, with locals urged to highlight suitable waterways for the council to consider by Thursday.
Both Westmeath and Roscommon County Councils are also being called on to seek Blue flags for two popular swimming spots in the counties.
Hodson Bay and Coosan Point have been put forward by locals in the area as hopefuls for Blue flag designation.
