People in the Shannonside region who have an interest in tracing their family tree are being encouraged to attend a free talk this evening.
The seminar 'How DNA can uncover family connections' takes place at 6:30pm this evening in Castlerea Library.
Martin Curley, a native of East Galway and who runs the East Galway genealogy Facebook page, will be hosting the talk
He says that the event could lead to some previously unknown connections being made on the night
"So we're trying , not just in Castlerea but in the whole wider area going into South Mayo into Roscommon and North Galway, to just kind of get people there to come and chat and talk about DNA and those who have done a DNA test, it will be fascinating because we'll be able to say if they're linked to each other. So, we might have 2 people sitting next to each other and at the end of the night we'll find out that they might be 5th cousins that they mightn't have known about before".
