People in the Shannonside region are being encouraged to attend a talk on a major historical event this evening.
Members of the 35th Battalion based in Mullingar, Longford, Galway, and Athlone were part of the Siege of Jadotville in 1961.
'A Company' spent 5 days defending Jadotville from attacks before being forced to surrender.
The soldiers were only formally honoured for their efforts in 2017.
Leo Quinlan, son of Commandant Pat Quinlan who led the Battalion, is hosting the talk this evening in the Greville Arms Hotel in Mullingar at 7pm.
He says that the effects of feeling betrayed by higher authorities are still being felt by the soldiers to this day.
"Moral injury in a military sense basically is soldiers suffer some kind of traumatic experience and are betrayed by a higher authority. Betrayed means ignored, denied, paid no attention to. In the last number of years I've heard all sorts of stories from a number of Jadotville veterans and their children about how they now recognise that moral injury was and still remains a factor as a result of Jadotville".
