The Tánaiste says an overflow pipe must be installed to bring an end to flooding around Lough Funshinagh.
Micheál Martin was speaking during a visit to residents living around the south Roscommon turlough yesterday.
Works on a 3km overflow pipe were stalled following a successful High Court challenge by environmental group Friends of the Irish Environment in 2021.
The Fianna Fáil leader denied his visit was linked to upcoming local and European elections and said the planning process for the works must now commence.
He added focus in the interim must turn to finding a temporary solution to rising water levels ahead of next winter.
