The Tánaiste is to seek answers over why a report into the treatment and death of a Longford woman has been continually delayed by the HSE. Bryonny Sainsbury died in 2021, days after she was injured in an accident with her horse. Initially treated in Midlands Regional Hospital Mullingar before her transfer to Beaumont Hospital, Bryonny's death was found to be a result of medical misadventure according to her inquest. The Ireland East Hospital Group confirmed a report into Bryonny's treatment would be compiled and released last year after major failings were identified with her treatment at Mullingar Hospital. The family has received 15 letters from the HSE delaying the publication of the draft report and have described a lack of contact from Health Service management as disgraceful.
Bryonny's parents Alison and Chris Sainsbury attended a meeting with Micheál Martin in Leinster House yesterday, organised by local TD Joe Flaherty. The Tánaiste promised the family that he would liaise with both the Minister for Health and HSE officials to ensure a draft report was issue as soon as possible. Speaking this morning, Bryonny's mum Alison says the review is needed to help ensure that no other family finds themselves facing such trauma.
