The Tánaiste is to visit an embattled flood-affected area of south Roscommon today. Micheál Martin will arrive at Lough Funshinagh this morning to meet with residents and local public representatives. The visit follows a private meeting on Sunday between the Taoiseach and members of the community affected by the rising waters.
Minister at the Office of Public Works Kieran O'Donnell stated in the last two weeks that any substantial works on the turlough will not happen this year. All eyes locally are now on potential short term measures to stabilise the water to insure more homes are not affected. Two families have been forced to evacuate their homes in the Curraghboy area in recent weeks due to rising water levels.
