Taoiseach Micheal Martin has officially announced a number of new restrictions aimed at reducing the risk of spreading Covid in the community.
Almost all of the restrictions had been widely leaked in the past 24 hours, although the complete closure of nightclubs wasn't expected by everyone.
These are the details of the latest restrictions announced by the Taoiseach
1:Gatherings in homes to be restricted to four households
2:Maximum of 50 per cent capacity at entertainment, cultural, community and sporting events indoors, which must be fully seated.
3:Bars and restaurants must all revert to the situation before October 22nd.
This means:
- Table service only
- 1 metre between tables
- Maximum of six adults per table
- No multiple table bookings
- Closing time remains at midnight
4:Nightclubs to close from December 7th to January 9th
5:Digital Covid Certs to be extended to gyms and hairdressers
Meanwhile 5,419 new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed this evening.
528 patients are in hospital with the virus, with 110 in intensive care.
Latest figures show the country's 14-day incidence rate has risen to 1,358 cases per 100,000 people.
Carlow has the highest rate, at 2,171.
