The Taoiseach says no decision has been made for the location of a significant numbers of asylum seekers in Athlone and Mullingar. Reports stated the plans include prefab units for 200 people at the former Columb Military Barracks in Mullingar and space for 400 people at a site in Athlone according to the Irish Independent.
The strategy is part of efforts to take the pressure off Dublin where up to 100 tents used by asylum seekers were removed from Dublin's Grand Canal this morning. Speaking to Shannonside FM this morning, Taoiseach Simon Harris says that only one location in Dublin has been selected for this new strategy.
