The Taoiseach says a planning application for an interim solution to the flooding crisis in south Roscommon is due to be made next month.
It comes as the water levels of Lough Funshinagh remain very high for this time of year and there are fears of more homes being flooded later this year.
In a letter to Independent TD Denis Naughten, Simon Harris says various state agencies are working hard to ensure an interim solution is in place before the winter.
He says their focus is on doing the necessary work to submit a planning application to An Bord Pleanála by the end of August.
Independent Ireland MEP Ciaran Mullooly has been reacting to the news this evening.
