There's good news for motorists in Castlerea with the re-opening of the Tarmon road this evening.
The route bypasses the town and provides a link from the Frenchpark Boyle road to Castleplunkett and onto Tulsk; it also leads directly to the Tarmon primary school
It was closed in June to allow work to replace the bridge over the Tarmon river and to take out some sharp bends close to the bridge.
Tarmacadam works were complete in the last two days and local councillor Paschal Fitzmaurice says the project has been finished to a high standard.
Meanwhile work on the N60 from Ballymoe to Castlerea which was due to start this week has been delayed.
Councillor Fitzmaurice says he had raised the concerns of locals, and lorry drivers of the state of disrepair of the road to the council, which successfully secured reprioritisation from the TII to bring resurfacing works forward by a year.
The delay to the 2 million euro project is due will only be temporary and councillor Fitzmaurice says the contractor should be on site within two weeks.
