A quarter of a million euro has been announced for the completion of safety works in a Roscommon village.
Tarmonbarry on the Longford/Roscommon border has been allocated the funds under the town and village renewal scheme.
Works will include traffic calming measures on the N5 through the village, a traffic light controlled pedestrian crossing and the upgrade of footpaths, car parking and outdoor seating areas for local restaurants.
It's expected that the process will take between 8 to 10 weeks, with Roscommon County Council stating the works will be complete before the start of the tourism season.
Local Councillor Tom Crosby believes both locals and tourists will see the benefit of the work.
